HNB Investment Bank Expands Regionally with Strategic Entry into Maldivian Market

In a landmark move signalling its regional ambitions, HNB Investment Bank (HNBIB) has officially entered the Maldivian financial sector through a strategic partnership with Dhivehi Investment Partners Pvt Ltd (DIP). The agreement was formalised at a ceremonial signing held on Thursday, 16th July, at the Barcelo Nasandhura, South Ari, Male’.

The event drew key business leaders and senior representatives from both organisations. Representing HNBIB were Mr. Damith Pallewatte, Managing Director / CEO of HNB PLC and Chairman of HNB Investment Bank, and Mr. Ray Abeywardena, Group CEO / Managing Director of HNBIB. Mr. Abdul Wahid Thowfeeq, Chairman of DIP, led the Maldivian delegation.

The partnership aims to bolster capital market development in the Maldives. HNBIB will introduce a comprehensive range of investment banking services including financial and technical advisory for equity and debt capital raising, dual listings on the Colombo Stock Exchange, mergers and acquisitions support, business valuations, corporate governance advisory, and employee share ownership plan structuring.

Mr. Pallewatte expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating it marks the beginning of a dynamic relationship set to strengthen financial ecosystems and unlock value across the region. Mr. Abeywardena echoed this sentiment, highlighting the Maldives as a market with significant potential and reaffirming HNBIB’s commitment to delivering impactful, solutions-driven investment services aligned with the country’s growth agenda.

DIP will play a vital role on the ground, facilitating client referrals, regulatory compliance, and logistical support for joint projects. Chairman Abdul Wahid Thowfeeq noted the partnership as a timely opportunity to advance the Maldivian capital market and expand investor access through HNBIB’s regional expertise.

This development underscores HNBIB’s growing influence in South Asia’s investment banking landscape and reaffirms its position as a catalyst for cross-border capital market collaboration.
