Sri Lanka’s Exports Reach US$ 5.5 Billion in First Four Months of 2025, Driven by Strong Growth in Apparel, Coconut Products, and Services

Colombo, 26 May 2025 — Sri Lanka’s export sector recorded a significant upswing in the first four months of 2025, with total exports reaching US$ 5.58 billion, reflecting a 6.9% year-on-year growth compared to the same period in 2024. The Export Development Board (EDB) attributes this momentum to robust performances across both merchandise and services sectors, underpinned by expanding market access and enhanced competitiveness.

Exports in April 2025 alone totalled US$ 1.29 billion, marking an 8.74% increase from April 2024. Merchandise exports saw a particularly strong boost of 12.05%, rising to US$ 983.33 million, while services exports contributed US$ 309.3 million for the month.

“This encouraging growth highlights Sri Lanka’s increasing integration into global trade and the success of our efforts to strengthen export competitiveness,” said Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Export Development Board
