OTTO Bathware Becomes Sri Lanka’s First to Receive SLS 1738 Certification for Water Closets

In a landmark achievement that underscores its commitment to superior quality and consumer safety, ART DECORATION INTERNATIONAL (PVT) LTD., the manufacturer of OTTO Bathware, has been awarded the prestigious SLS 1738 Certification by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) for its water closet products.

The official certification was presented by Dr. (Mrs) Siddhika G. Senaratne, Director General of the SLSI, to Mr. Dilanga Karunaratna, Director of Art Decoration International, in recognition of the company’s adherence to the highest standards of product quality and manufacturing excellence.

“This recognition is not just a milestone for OTTO Bathware, but a step forward for the entire Sri Lankan manufacturing sector,” said Mr. Karunaratna. “We are proud to be the first in Sri Lanka to achieve the SLS 1738 certification and to lead the way with products that meet and exceed global standards,” he added.

“What is even more remarkable is that this comes at a time when low-quality, cheap alternatives are being dumped into the country, flooding the market with no quality assurances whatsoever. The damage caused by using such products can ultimately affect your health,” Mr. Karunaratna further cautioned.

SLS 1738 is the national benchmark for water closets, developed by SLSI based on British Standards and European Norms, ensuring that products meet rigorous international quality standards.

To obtain this certification, a company must undergo a comprehensive audit of its manufacturing process, including compliance with ISO 9001 standards, followed by extensive product testing carried out in certified laboratories.

Even post-certification, OTTO’s commitment to excellence continues. The factory is audited annually by SLSI, and all daily production undergoes in-house testing aligned with the same rigorous standards. This ensures that every product reaching the consumer meets the highest levels of quality, safety, and performance.

OTTO Bathware’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Bandaragama is a cornerstone of this success. Spanning over 435,000 square feet and employing more than 350 skilled professionals, the facility is equipped with advanced technology and adheres to global production standards. Through continuous research and development, the company strives to innovate and elevate the standards of bathroom solutions in Sri Lanka. The factory has also become a point of pride for the local community, contributing to regional development and employment.

Looking ahead, OTTO Bathware is setting its sights on becoming Sri Lanka’s most affordable luxury bathware brand—bringing elegant, high-quality, and reliable products to homes across the nation without compromising on affordability. This bold vision reflects the brand’s long-term commitment to growth, innovation, and customer-centric excellence.

With the right to now carry the SLS Certification Mark, ART DECORATION INTERNATIONAL (PVT) LTD. reinforces its mission to provide dependable, durable, and high-quality bathware that Sri Lankan consumers can trust—with pride, quality, and integrity at the heart of every product.
