Sri Lanka Launches Digital CRVS System to Strengthen Public Infrastructure

Published on

Sri Lanka’s Digital Economy Ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and key partners, has launched a Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system to enhance the country’s digital public infrastructure.

Unveiled at the Sri Lanka Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Summit 2025 in Colombo, the CRVS system will register births, deaths, and other vital statistics to improve governance and service delivery. Digital Economy Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne highlighted that this initiative will enhance data accuracy and accessibility, ensuring public services are available at citizens’ fingertips.

Weeraratne stressed the Digital ID system as a crucial link between public and private sectors, supporting Sri Lanka’s ambition to develop a $15 billion digital economy by 2030. He also emphasised the importance of an inclusive, equitable, and secure digital transformation, ensuring no community is left behind.
