Passing of Sri Lankan Business Magnate Harry Jayawardena

Colombo, 3 February 2025 – Renowned Sri Lankan industrialist and businessman Don Harold Stassen Jayawardena, widely known as Harry Jayawardena, has passed away at the age of 82. He was the chairman of Melstacorp PLC and served as the Honorary Consul General for Denmark in Sri Lanka.

Born on 17 August 1942 in Ja-Ela, Sri Lanka, Jayawardena was recognised as one of the wealthiest individuals in the country. He held prominent positions as chairman of both the Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka and Aitken Spence, two of the first Sri Lankan companies to be listed on Forbes’ list of best-managed companies outside the USA.

Throughout his career, Jayawardena made significant contributions to Sri Lanka’s corporate landscape, leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s economy. His leadership and vision were instrumental in the growth and success of several key industries.

The business community and the nation mourn the loss of a visionary leader whose legacy will continue to influence future generations.
