Neil Marine Expands Boatbuilding Capacity with New Dikovita Facility

Published on

Neil Marine Group has strengthened its boatbuilding operations with the opening of a new manufacturing facility at Dikovita, Wattala, supporting its plans to increase production and expand its presence in international markets.

The new facility, representing an investment exceeding Rs. 50 million, has received approval from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. Developed on previously unused land belonging to the Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation, the project also demonstrates the potential for public and private sector collaboration in bringing underutilised state assets into productive economic use.

The Dikovita yard will provide additional production capacity for boats serving both Sri Lankan and overseas markets, while supporting employment creation and contributing to export earnings. The expansion comes as Sri Lanka seeks to strengthen higher value manufacturing industries and diversify its export base.

The facility was opened with religious observances under the patronage of Ven. Pandita Ranasgalle Gnanaweera Thero, Incumbent of Ratmalana Mallikaramaya. The occasion also honoured the late Neil Fernando, founder of Neil Marine Group, whose vision helped establish the company as a recognised name in Sri Lanka’s boatbuilding industry.

Operations at the new yard are headed by Officer in Charge Ajith Susantha and his team, under the leadership of Group Chairman Kumari Fernando, Group President Manel Fernando and CEO Shan Perera.

Deputy Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Minister Rathna Gamage, Industries Ministry Boatbuilding Sector Chairman Indra Kaushal Rajapaksha and representatives from Government and industry attended the opening.
