DIMO has strengthened its renewable energy portfolio with the successful development of four new utility-scale solar power plants in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province, adding a combined 18MW of clean energy capacity to the national grid.
Located in Rathgama and Akmeemana in the Galle District, the projects were developed through DIMO’s wholly owned subsidiaries as Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects. The development comprises the 3MW solar power plant operated by DIMO Solar Galle Ltd. and three additional 5MW facilities owned by DIMO Solar Galle Two Ltd., DIMO Solar Galle Three Ltd. and DIMO Solar Galle Four Ltd.
With the commissioning of these projects, DIMO’s total cumulative solar generation capacity has increased to 25.845MW (AC), marking another significant milestone in the company’s investment in sustainable energy infrastructure.
Collectively, the four solar power plants are expected to generate approximately 31.8 million kWh of clean electricity annually while reducing carbon emissions by more than 12,945 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO₂e) each year. The projects are expected to provide sufficient electricity to meet the needs of nearly 37,937 households, supporting Sri Lanka’s long-term renewable energy, environmental sustainability and energy security goals.
The facilities incorporate advanced technologies, including high-efficiency solar photovoltaic panels, Smart Transformer Station technology, utility-scale grid-connected solar PV systems and modern monitoring solutions to ensure efficient and reliable power generation.
Commenting on the achievement, Wijith Pushpawela said the additional 18MW capacity demonstrates DIMO’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards sustainable energy while strengthening the national grid and contributing to long-term environmental and energy security objectives.
