Sri Lanka strengthened its engagement with Canadian investors and the Sri Lankan diaspora through a virtual Investment Opportunities in Sri Lanka Forum, jointly organised by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto and the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka on 18 June 2026.
The forum attracted around 40 participants, including members of the Sri Lankan diaspora and prospective investors from Canada, reflecting growing international interest in Sri Lanka’s investment landscape.
Opening the event, Consul General Medhavi Peiris said the forum was organised in response to the increasing number of investment inquiries received from the diaspora and Canadian investors. She noted that the initiative aimed to provide updated information on investment opportunities, clarify misconceptions, and facilitate direct engagement with relevant government institutions.
Director General of the Economic Affairs (Bilateral) Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Manori Mallikaratchy, highlighted the importance of strengthening investment ties with the Sri Lankan diaspora and encouraged participants to explore emerging opportunities across key sectors. She also promoted Sri Lanka Expo 2027 as a strategic platform for investors and businesses.
BOI Director General Renuka Weerakone reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting diaspora investment and facilitating a more investor-friendly business environment.
Detailed presentations by BOI Executive Director Priyanka Samaraweera and Director of Investment Promotion Ganga Palaketiya outlined investment opportunities, priority sectors, structured projects and available incentives.
During the interactive discussion, participants welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with officials while raising concerns over approval processes and regulatory clearances. BOI representatives highlighted ongoing reforms to streamline procedures, improve investor facilitation and strengthen Sri Lanka’s attractiveness as a competitive destination for international investment.
