Published on

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has announced the retirement of its Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, S. Prabagar, effective 26 April 2026, marking the conclusion of an exemplary career spanning over 30 years.

A seasoned banking professional, Prabagar held several leadership roles across operations, corporate banking, and internal audit, culminating in his appointment as COO in May 2022. He played a pivotal role in strengthening governance frameworks, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting the Bank’s sustained growth both locally and internationally.

His international tenure in Bangladesh stands out, where he served as COO and Country Manager, expanding operations from two branches to a 19-branch network. Under his leadership, the Bangladesh operation became the third most profitable among foreign banks, contributing significantly to group performance.

Prabagar also contributed to the wider financial ecosystem through engagements with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the National Payment Council, and the Bankers Association of Sri Lanka. He further supported professional development as a lecturer at the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.

The Bank acknowledged his outstanding contributions, noting that his leadership and commitment were instrumental in driving operational excellence and regional expansion.
