Colombo Dockyard and Dredging Corporation of India Sign Strategic Maritime Agreement

Published on

Colombo Dockyard PLC has entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India’s Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL), marking a new chapter in bilateral maritime cooperation. The agreement focuses on providing drydocking and ship repair services for DCIL’s fleet, strengthening operational linkages between the two nations.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, by Capt. S. Divakar, Managing Director and CEO of DCIL, and Thimira S. Godakumbura, Managing Director and CEO of Colombo Dockyard PLC.

Addressing the ceremony, High Commissioner Jha described the partnership as a reflection of the steadily evolving India–Sri Lanka relationship. He emphasised that the collaboration builds on recent developments, particularly the acquisition of a majority stake in Colombo Dockyard by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

Jha noted that the partnership creates strong complementarities, enabling Colombo Dockyard to access the Indian market while extending Sri Lanka’s shipbuilding and repair expertise regionally. He termed the agreement a “win-win” outcome and an important step towards deeper maritime cooperation.

Godakumbura highlighted that the agreement represents a major milestone for both the company and Sri Lanka’s maritime industry, underscoring years of strategic groundwork and international partnership development.
