Published on

The Export Development Board of Sri Lanka hosted an orientation programme on 16 January 2026 for newly appointed Heads of Sri Lanka Missions overseas, with the objective of strengthening collaboration in promoting national exports and trade related initiatives.

The programme provided an overview of Sri Lanka’s export landscape, strategic priorities, and the role of overseas Missions in supporting trade and investment promotion. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mangala Wijesinghe delivered the welcome address and presented a comprehensive briefing on export performance trends, national targets, and the Board’s strategic direction. Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EDB participated in the discussions.

Attention was also drawn to the importance of close coordination between Sri Lanka Missions and the EDB in identifying market opportunities, addressing trade barriers, and supporting exporters. A key focus of the programme was Sri Lanka Expo 2026, with Missions encouraged to actively promote the event and facilitate buyer and investor participation.

The session concluded with a reaffirmation of collective commitment to expanding Sri Lanka’s global trade presence and supporting sustainable economic growth.
