Central Bank of Sri Lanka announced that headline inflation based on the Colombo Consumer Price Index remained unchanged at 2.1 percent in December 2025. Food inflation stayed at 3.0 percent, while non food inflation increased to 1.8 percent. On a monthly basis, inflation rose by 1.26 percent, mainly driven by food prices affected by adverse weather conditions. Core inflation accelerated to 2.7 percent, reflecting underlying demand pressures. The Central Bank stated that inflation projections indicate a gradual move towards the five percent target in the period ahead, supported by appropriate monetary policy measures and continued economic stabilisation.
