Young Sri Lankans Help Drive Global Engagement and Bring CIO200 Grand Finale to Colombo

Published on

A new generation of globally exposed Sri Lankan professionals is helping strengthen the country’s international engagement, investment appeal and reputation for technology-led progress.

Among those highlighted in this effort is Sanduni Fernando, whose persistence played an important role in encouraging discussions around bringing the CIO200 Grand Finale to Sri Lanka. Her initiative helped connect GEC Media with senior Sri Lankan officials and demonstrated the country’s readiness to host major international technology gatherings.

The effort also involved Ms Arusha Cooray, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the UAE, Minister of Science and Technology Prof Chrishantha Abeysena, and Consul General Mr Alexi Gunasekera, whose accessibility and engagement helped build confidence among international stakeholders.

The momentum has culminated in the CIO200 Grand Finale in Colombo from 22 to 24 September 2026, with Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya expected to open the event and the Minister of Digital Economy delivering a keynote address.

The initiative reflects a broader shift towards responsive leadership, global collaboration and youth-driven national progress, while strengthening Sri Lanka’s position in technology, innovation and enterprise engagement.
