Vietnam Strengthens Position as Southeast Asia’s Emerging Electric Vehicle Investment Hub

Published on

Vietnam is strengthening its position as one of Southeast Asia’s most attractive destinations for electric vehicle (EV) investment, according to an opinion article published by Indonesia’s The Jakarta Post and highlighted by Vietnam News Agency. The analysis attributes the country’s growing appeal to its stable investment policies, skilled workforce and well developed manufacturing ecosystem.

The article, written by Victoria Fanggidae, Executive Director of the Indonesian policy research centre The PRAKARSA, and Yuanda Pangi Harahap, the organisation’s Project Coordinator, states that Vietnam has adopted a comprehensive long term strategy to develop its EV industry. This includes sustained investment incentives, modern industrial infrastructure, workforce development and support for high technology manufacturing.

The authors noted that Vietnam’s consistent and predictable industrial policies have strengthened investor confidence, encouraging both domestic companies and foreign investors to expand their presence in the country. Measures such as corporate income tax incentives, import duty exemptions for components and land rent reductions have helped create a favourable environment for long term investment. Domestic EV manufacturer VinFast was cited as an example of the country’s successful industrial development strategy.

The analysis also highlighted Vietnam’s strong focus on human capital development, particularly vocational training for priority sectors such as electric vehicles, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing. This has enabled the country to meet the increasingly sophisticated requirements of global supply chains.

The authors concluded that Vietnam’s experience demonstrates that sustainable competitiveness depends not only on natural resources but also on policy consistency, innovation capacity and a highly skilled workforce. These strengths are positioning the country as a leading destination for EV investment and advanced manufacturing in Southeast Asia.
