President’s Counsel Sumathi Dharmawardena has been appointed an Independent Non-Executive Director of Vallibel Finance PLC, bringing more than three decades of legal experience to the board.

Dharmawardena served in Sri Lanka’s Attorney General’s Department from 1994 to 2026, rising to Senior Additional Solicitor General. His career encompassed representing the Government and State institutions before domestic courts and international arbitral tribunals.

His expertise spans commercial, administrative, telecommunications, information technology and sports law, alongside arbitration and regulatory matters. He has contributed to drafting and reviewing legislation concerning telecommunications, computer crimes, data protection, labour and sport.

Dharmawardena holds a Master of Laws in Commercial Law from the National University of Singapore and qualifications as an adjudicator and sports arbitrator from Malaysia’s Asian International Arbitration Centre.

He currently serves as Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit and has held appointments with the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration and Asian Sports Tribunal.
