TikTok Goes Dark for Americans Amid Legal Ban

Published on

TikTok became inaccessible to American users last Saturday night, displaying a message stating the app was offline and advising users to “stay tuned.” As reported by Clare Duffy and David Goldman for CNN, the message explained, “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”

Other apps owned by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, including Lemon8 and CapCut, were also removed from app stores.

The decision to shut down TikTok follows weeks of uncertainty, impacting 170 million American users. However, President-elect Donald Trump hinted at a possible delay in the ban, stating he may announce a 90-day reprieve on Monday.
