Thailand has approved a revised visa framework covering 65 countries and territories, introducing updated visa exemption and Visa on Arrival measures designed to improve border security while continuing to support international tourism. The changes were approved by the Thai Cabinet and will take effect after publication in the Royal Gazette.

Under the new policy, eligible travellers will be assigned to one of three entry categories: a 30 day visa exemption, a 15 day visa exemption or Visa on Arrival. The revised framework replaces the previous 60 day visa exemption introduced in 2024 and follows the principle of “one country, one entitlement”, ensuring that each country receives a single visa category based on economic considerations, security assessments, international relations and reciprocity.

Among the significant changes, India has been moved from the Visa on Arrival category to a 30 day visa exemption, recognising its growing importance as a tourism, trade and investment partner. The updated policy also aligns visa free privileges across all member states of the European Union while introducing stronger digital screening through the enhanced Thailand Digital Arrival Card system.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand said the revised measures are intended to streamline entry procedures, reduce overlapping visa privileges and ensure that travel concessions are used for their intended purpose. The Government believes the reforms will strengthen national security while maintaining Thailand’s appeal as one of Asia’s leading travel destinations.

The updated visa policy reflects Thailand’s broader strategy of balancing tourism growth with effective immigration management, reinforcing confidence among international travellers and supporting the country’s long term economic and tourism objectives.
