Thai Travel Agents Seek Government Support Over Flight Cancellation Losses

Published on

The Thai travel industry is calling for urgent government intervention to address mounting financial losses faced by tour operators בעקבות widespread flight cancellations. According to a report by Bangkok Post, the Thai Travel Agents Association has urged authorities to coordinate with airlines to ensure fair and timely refunds.

The association recently submitted a formal request to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, highlighting the severe impact of abrupt flight cancellations and schedule changes on both travellers and tour operators. While customers expect full refunds, tour companies are often left absorbing significant upfront costs, including hotel bookings, transport arrangements, and programme adjustments—many of which are non-refundable.

The TTAA emphasised that operators are compelled to utilise their own cash reserves to reimburse clients in order to preserve trust and business credibility, despite not yet receiving corresponding refunds from airlines. This growing financial strain threatens the stability of smaller operators and could disrupt the broader tourism ecosystem.

Industry stakeholders are now urging a coordinated framework between regulators and airlines to protect both travellers and businesses, ensuring greater resilience within Thailand’s vital tourism sector.
