Tata Electronics Faces Environmental Scrutiny Over iPhone Components Facility in Tamil Nadu

Published on

Tata Electronics, a key supplier in Apple’s expanding manufacturing network in India, is facing regulatory scrutiny following allegations that wastewater discharged from its iPhone components facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, contaminated nearby agricultural land and groundwater sources.

According to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), inspections conducted between December 2025 and May 2026 found that wastewater from the facility had allegedly overflowed into a rainwater harvesting pond and affected open wells located on adjacent farmland. The regulator has reportedly warned the company that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation could result in power disconnection and closure of the facility.

The Hosur plant manufactures back panels and other components for Apple iPhones and plays a significant role in India’s growing electronics manufacturing sector. Tata Electronics, however, has rejected the allegations, stating that an independent accredited laboratory found the facility to be fully compliant with all applicable environmental regulations.

The development comes as India continues to strengthen its position as a major global hub for iPhone production and electronics exports.
