Sri Lanka Strengthens Global Investor Confidence with Improved IIF Assessment

Published on

Sri Lanka has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening international investor confidence after recording a second consecutive year of notable progress in sovereign investor relations and debt transparency.

The latest assessment by the Institute of International Finance (IIF) Investor Relations and Debt Transparency Report 2026 places Sri Lanka among the world’s strongest performers in improving investor relations practices. The country recorded the fourth highest improvement in its overall investor relations score, reflecting sustained efforts to align with internationally recognised best practices.

Sri Lanka’s progress was driven largely by improvements in debt transparency and the dissemination of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data and policies. The country also emerged as one of the leading improvers in both debt transparency and ESG related disclosures, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing transparency and reducing information asymmetry for international investors

The achievement reflects the continued efforts of the Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), working closely with other stakeholder institutions to strengthen Sri Lanka’s sovereign investor relations framework. Through enhanced disclosure practices and improved communication with global investors, the country has reinforced its commitment to sound public debt management and responsible economic governance.

Economic analysts believe the improved assessment will further strengthen Sri Lanka’s credibility in international capital markets, broaden its sovereign investor base and support future access to global financing. Greater transparency and stronger governance are also expected to improve investor sentiment, attract long term foreign investment and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The latest recognition highlights Sri Lanka’s continued progress in rebuilding confidence among international investors while reinforcing its reputation as an emerging economy committed to transparency, accountability and prudent fiscal management.
