Sri Lanka Signs Debt Restructuring Agreement with the United Kingdom

Sri Lanka has signed a bilateral agreement with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, marking a significant milestone in the external debt restructuring process. The agreement provides debt relief through rescheduling outstanding debts amounting to USD 86 million and JPY 582 million. Diplomatic notes were exchanged between Finance Secretary Dr Harshana Suriyapperuma and British High Commissioner Andrew Patrick. The move reflects Sri Lanka’s commitment to restore debt sustainability and deepen longstanding bilateral ties.
