Sri Lanka recorded its highest ever workers remittances in 2025, with inflows estimated at USD 7.8 billion, marking a major post crisis recovery milestone.
Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Minister Vijitha Herath said the figure surpassed the previous record of USD 7.24 billion set in 2016, reflecting year on year growth of 19 percent. He noted that remittances rebounded strongly after falling to USD 3.78 billion in 2022. The recovery highlights renewed confidence among migrant workers and reinforces remittances as a vital non debt source of foreign exchange supporting economic stability.
