Sri Lanka Launches First Edition of Kotler’s Essentials of Modern Marketing

Published on

The first-ever Sri Lanka edition of Essentials of Modern Marketing (EOMM) by world-renowned marketing authority Prof. Philip Kotler was launched at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, in collaboration with Kotler Impact Inc. and Deyo Consultancy and Advisory. The event marked a historic milestone for Sri Lanka, becoming the latest country to be featured in Kotler’s acclaimed series of country-specific editions.

In his keynote address, Prof. Nalin Abeysekara, Professor of Management Studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka, urged the nation to diversify beyond traditional exports such as tea, coconut, and garments. Highlighting the global shift towards a creative economy encompassing music, film, and publishing, he called on Sri Lanka to promote its rising stars as global brands.

Chief Guest, H.E. Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, emphasised the role of marketing in diplomacy. Drawing from her academic background in business and management, she described herself as “the marketer of my government” and encouraged stronger bilateral trade and investment between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

Kotler Impact CEO, Ms. Sadia Kibria, hailed the launch as a “landmark achievement” and stressed that marketing is “a catalyst for positive social change.” She highlighted Sri Lanka’s young population, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit, while announcing two new initiatives for the country – the Kotler Awards and Kotler Business School.

In a video message, Prof. Philip Kotler said the book offers “an up-to-date and insightful explanation of modern marketing in today’s turbulent times,” emphasising its role in innovation, humanity, and global equity.

Mr. Denzil Perera, Founder of Deyo Consultancy and Advisory and Kotler Impact’s National Representative, described the EOMM Sri Lanka edition as a “living guide for marketers” and a tribute to local brands that have achieved global recognition.

The Sri Lanka edition features over 20 leading local case studies alongside global best practices, positioning the nation’s marketing industry on the world stage.
