At the invitation of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with its Sri Lanka Greater Mekong Business Council, hosted a high-profile panel discussion on “Business Opportunities between Thailand and Sri Lanka: Food, Agriculture, and Health for Sustainable Prosperity and Wellbeing.”
Held recently at The Kingsbury Colombo, the event was followed by a Business Networking Session with a visiting Thai business delegation, organised by the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Board of Trade of Thailand. Comprising 17 officials and business representatives, the delegation’s visit built upon the recent business promotion mission to Thailand in February 2025, aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between the two nations.
Exploring Opportunities for Sustainable Growth
The panel discussion brought together industry leaders and experts from both countries to explore opportunities in the food, agriculture, and health sectors, focusing on sustainable development.
Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, welcomed the delegation and highlighted how the discussion aligned with Sri Lanka’s national priorities on food security, agriculture, and tourism-driven services.
His Excellency Paitoon Mahapannaporn, Ambassador of Thailand to Sri Lanka, noted that while precious stones have traditionally dominated Sri Lanka’s exports to Thailand, recent trends indicate growth in raw materials, processed products, plastic goods, textiles, chemicals, tea, and spices. He underscored the vast potential for further trade expansion between the two countries.
Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, emphasised the importance of bilateral collaboration in adding value to products and services, thereby increasing their competitiveness in global markets.
Strengthening Bilateral Trade and Investment
The Thai delegation, led by Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, included leading entrepreneurs from diverse industries. Beyond the discussions, the delegation will conduct field visits across Sri Lanka to gain firsthand insights into the food, agriculture, and health sectors, identifying potential collaboration opportunities.
This engagement is expected to deepen trade ties, enhance investment flows, and drive sustainable economic growth for both nations.
