Sri Lanka Advances Towards Poultry Exports to Singapore Following High-Level SFA Meeting

Published on

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with the Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), hosted a high-level meeting on 1 August with a delegation from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to discuss progress on enabling Sri Lankan poultry exports to Singapore.

The meeting built upon two recent SFA inspection missions—first in March 2024, covering New Anthony’s Farm, NELNA Farm, and Ceylon Grain Elevators, and a second visit from 28 July to 1 August auditing Pussella Farm, Jaya Farm, Bairaha Farms PLC, and DAPH facilities.

Sri Lanka’s disease-free status, strategic geographic position, and competitive product offerings were highlighted as key advantages. In 2024, poultry exports reached USD 5.4 million, reflecting a 37% year-on-year increase, with destinations including the Maldives, Qatar, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Japan. Applications for exports to Singapore have already been submitted by shortlisted companies.

Key discussions included aligning with Singapore’s stringent food safety standards. Both parties stressed the importance of regulatory compliance and close cooperation.

The meeting was chaired by EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe, with participation from senior officials from EDB, DAPH, the Agriculture Ministry, and the SFA.
