SLT Appoints M. Riyaaz Rasheed as First Non-Engineer CEO

Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT) has appointed M. Riyaaz Rasheed as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 January 2026, marking the first time in the company’s history that a non-engineer will lead the organisation. The appointment, confirmed by the Board of Directors on 24 October 2025, signifies a strategic shift towards financial and corporate leadership excellence. Rasheed, a seasoned finance professional with over 34 years of experience, has held senior roles at Robi Axiata, Hutchison Telecommunications, Etisalat Sri Lanka, and Tigo Lanka. A Fellow of CIMA, he holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management.
