The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) has embarked on a comprehensive digital transformation of its accreditation procedures, administrative operations and accounting systems in a landmark move to enhance the international recognition, credibility and competitiveness of Sri Lankan products and services.

The initiative was officially launched on 15 July in Colombo under the patronage of Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, highlighting the Government’s commitment to modernising the country’s quality infrastructure and supporting export growth through digital innovation.

The launch ceremony brought together prominent representatives from accreditation bodies across the Asia Pacific region, including Global Accreditation Cooperation Forum Chairman Brahim Howla, officials of the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation, Ministry Secretary K. A. Wimalenthirarajah, SLAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Prasanna Ranasinghe, Acting Director and CEO Chandita Ediriweera, together with several local and international delegates.

As part of the transformation, SLAB unveiled its newly upgraded official website, developed in accordance with international cyber security standards. The enhanced platform will enable businesses, institutions and consumers to access accreditation related services through a secure, efficient and fully digital interface, improving transparency and operational efficiency.

In another significant development, Sri Lanka has been invited to join Australia, Panama, Tunisia and Italy as one of the five sponsoring countries of a landmark resolution to be presented to the United Nations General Assembly, proposing that 9 June be observed annually as United Nations International Accreditation Day.

The initiative reinforces Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening quality assurance, food safety and public health while creating greater opportunities for local enterprises to compete confidently in global markets.
