SCU recently celebrated an important milestone in the academic journeys of its graduates at a special graduation ceremony held on 16 September 2026 at the SLIIT Uni Auditorium. The ceremony brought together graduates, families, academic staff, and distinguished guests to recognise the achievements of students completing their degrees through the University of Bedfordshire Convocation 2026 and the Liverpool John Moores University Class of 2026.
The occasion marked a significant achievement for the graduating students, who successfully completed their respective programmes and reached an important milestone in their academic and professional journeys. The ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their studies while recognising the support provided by their families, lecturers, and the wider SCU community throughout their academic experience.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Mr. Chris Marshall, Executive Dean of the Business School, University of Bedfordshire, United Kingdom, who attended as the Chief Guest. His presence added significance to the occasion and provided graduates with the opportunity to celebrate this important milestone in the presence of a senior academic representative from the University of Bedfordshire.
The event was also attended by a number of distinguished academics and senior representatives from SCU and its partner institutions. Among those present were Prof. Yasas Jayaweera, Chief Operating Officer / Chief Academic Officer, SCU; Dr. Gobithas Tharmarajah, CEO/Dean Academic, SLIIT Northern Uni; Mr. Uditha Gamage, COO, Curtin Colombo; Prof. Lakshman Ratnayake, Chairman, SCU; Prof. Lalith Gamage, Managing Director/CEO, SCU; and Prof. Mahesha Kapurubandara, Director International, SCU.
The ceremony was further supported by the presence of Dr. Madhawa Herath, Dean, COO/CAO, SLIIT Kandy Uni; Dr. Gayana Fernando, Assistant Professor and Head of the School of Information Technology, SCU; Dr. Nipunika Vithana, Assistant Professor and Head of the School of Business Management, SCU; and Ms. Chintha Ediriweera, Director – Administration, SCU.
For the graduates, the ceremony represented more than the completion of an academic programme. It marked the culmination of years of learning, personal development, challenges, and achievements, while opening the way towards new opportunities in their professional lives. The occasion also highlighted the importance of international academic partnerships in providing students with opportunities to pursue globally recognised qualifications while studying within Sri Lanka.
