SMB Finance PLC has appointed Professor Ajith Medis as its Chief Executive Officer, bringing more than three decades of experience in financial services, strategic management, marketing and academia to the company’s leadership.

The appointment supports the company’s plans for sustainable growth, improved business performance and the pursuit of opportunities within Sri Lanka’s evolving financial services industry.

Prof. Medis is a Professor of Strategy at the University of Kelaniya. His career includes senior corporate and financial sector roles, with contributions to business development, organisational transformation and strategic decision making.

He has served as a Director of Alliance Finance PLC and Chief Executive Officer of PMF Finance PLC, alongside board positions in other sectors. He has also provided consultancy services to more than 30 finance companies in Sri Lanka and overseas, advising on strategic and operational challenges.

His expertise includes business transformation, performance improvement and turnaround strategies for organisations facing financial and operational difficulties. His work has focused on strengthening revenue and profitability, establishing sound corporate fundamentals and positioning businesses for sustainable growth.

Prof. Medis holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) Honours degree from the University of Kelaniya, a Master of Business Administration from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and a PhD from Management and Science University, Malaysia. He also holds postgraduate diplomas and maintains professional affiliations.
