Published on

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met a senior delegation from China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), led by Zhang Bingnan, at the Presidential Secretariat, with discussions focusing on existing and potential investments linked to Colombo Port City and other strategic sectors.

The discussions examined projects currently under implementation as well as future opportunities, as Sri Lanka seeks to attract greater foreign investment and strengthen its position as a competitive regional business destination.

CCCC representatives expressed confidence in the Government’s current economic direction and indicated that its policies had encouraged the company to explore further significant investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.

Beyond Colombo Port City, the delegation expressed interest in expanding investments into renewable energy, trade and logistics, and digital services. The representatives highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential to develop as a regional hub in these sectors, creating opportunities for greater international investment and economic activity.

Importantly, CCCC representatives indicated that 90 per cent of the workforce employed in their investment projects would be sourced locally, potentially generating significant employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Anil Jayantha Fernando, Chief of Staff to the President Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Senior Economic Adviser Duminda Hulangamuwa and other senior officials.

Representatives from CCCC and China Harbour Engineering Company Limited were also present, reflecting continued engagement between Sri Lanka and major Chinese investors as the country works to accelerate investment, infrastructure development and economic growth.
