Netherlands Expresses Interest in Port Investments in Sri Lanka

The Netherlands government has shown interest in port-related investments in Sri Lanka, according to Ambassador H.E. Bonnie Horbach. This was revealed during a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat on 27th February.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The discussions centred on enhancing Sri Lanka-Netherlands relations and exploring potential Dutch support for tourism, port development, and investments. The Netherlands also agreed to assist in cultural and historical conservation projects, research initiatives at the University of Colombo, and educational and training programmes for Sri Lankans.

Sustainability and Investment Opportunities

President Dissanayake emphasised the importance of Dutch support in tourism, port operations, and economic investments. Ambassador Horbach acknowledged Sri Lanka’s budget proposals and expressed interest in helping elevate the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme.

High-Level Participation

The meeting was attended by Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands Iwan Rutjens, and Policy Officer for Political Affairs Namal Perera.
