Union Bank of Colombo PLC has appointed Shaheeda Barrie as an Independent Non-Executive Director, strengthening its governance and regulatory expertise.
Barrie brings over 25 years of experience in public law, financial regulation, capital markets, and complex commercial litigation. She is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and a Barrister-at-Law of England & Wales (Gray’s Inn).
Her distinguished 22-year tenure at the Attorney General’s Department saw her rise to Deputy Solicitor General, advising the Government, regulators, and state institutions on high-impact matters. She has contributed significantly to legislative reforms, including laws relating to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and capital markets.
Currently an independent legal consultant, Barrie has worked with global institutions such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. She also serves as a Director of the Personal Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
Her appointment reflects Union Bank’s commitment to strong governance and strategic oversight.
