The International Monetary Fund has reaffirmed its continued support for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery, reinforcing international confidence in the country’s stabilisation and reform efforts following recent challenges. The assurance was conveyed by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, during a meeting with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos.
In a statement shared on X, Georgieva praised the resilience shown by Sri Lanka and its people following the destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah and reiterated the IMF’s commitment to supporting the country’s recovery path. Finance Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando also participated in the discussion.
During the visit, the Prime Minister held separate discussions with Asian Development Bank President Masato Kanda, focusing on economic conditions and reform progress. The WEF brings together global leaders to advance dialogue on shared economic and development priorities.
