HNB Records Strong First Half Growth as Advances Rise by Rs. 224 Billion

Hatton National Bank (HNB) has delivered a strong performance for the first half of 2026, recording significant growth in lending, deposits and operating income while maintaining sound asset quality amid a challenging economic environment.

For the six months ended June 2026, the HNB Group recorded a Profit After Tax of Rs. 22.5 billion, while the bank reported Rs. 23.1 billion. Gross loans and advances expanded by Rs. 224 billion during the period, reaching Rs. 1.7 trillion, representing 15% growth. The bank’s total asset base surpassed Rs. 2.55 trillion.

Customer deposits increased by Rs. 138 billion to exceed Rs. 2.1 trillion, supported by a CASA base of approximately 34%. HNB also maintained strong asset quality, with its Net Stage 3 ratio standing at 1.17%.

Net Interest Income rose by 21% year on year to Rs. 55.2 billion, while the Net Interest Margin improved to 4.4%. Net fee and commission income increased by 30%, supported by growing digital banking activity, card transactions, transaction banking and leasing. Total Operating Income consequently increased by 27% to Rs. 76.7 billion.

Commenting on the results, HNB Managing Director and CEO Damith Pallewatte said the first half performance demonstrated consistent execution and continued customer confidence despite challenging operating conditions.

He emphasised HNB’s commitment to responsible financial solutions, stronger digital capabilities, improved customer experiences and continued investment in people and technology.

Looking ahead, the bank remains focused on its strategic priorities while supporting Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and long term growth.
