Hemas Announces Leadership Transition as Esufally and Ekanayake Step Down

Hemas Holdings PLC announced key Board changes effective 31 December, marking a major leadership transition and renewal of its governance framework. Long serving Director and former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Husein Esufally will retire after more than four decades of service. Reported by Daily FT, the Group praised his transformational leadership and his role in building Hemas into a respected and diversified conglomerate. Deputy Chairman Dr Anura Ekanayake will also retire at the end of his term.

Effective 1 January 2026, investment banking veteran Ajith Fernando will assume duties as Chairman, bringing more than thirty years of strategic experience. Murtaza Esufally, Chairman of the Healthcare cluster, has been appointed Deputy Chairman to ensure continuity and strengthen oversight.

The Company said the appointments balance continuity with renewal, supporting long term growth and shareholder value.
