Published on

The groundbreaking ceremony for the $120 million luxury Marina development at Colombo Port City was held recently, marking a transformative milestone in Sri Lanka’s tourism and economic ambitions. Tourism and Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath hailed the initiative as a landmark venture that exemplifies the country’s innovation, ambition, and commitment to global excellence.

The state-of-the-art Marina, spanning 3.1 hectares, is being developed by Browns Investments PLC (LOLC Group) in collaboration with CHEC Port City Colombo Ltd. Designed as the only full-service Marina between Dubai and Phuket, it will accommodate 250 vessels and feature mixed-use spaces, luxury dining, and entertainment facilities. The Marina aims to redefine marine tourism across Asia, boosting Sri Lanka’s profile as a destination for luxury and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.

Chief Guest Minister Herath congratulated Browns Investments PLC and CHEC for their confidence in Sri Lanka’s future, describing the Marina as more than an infrastructure project – a hub that connects people, cultures, and economies. The development is expected to attract high-net-worth travellers and create numerous opportunities in hospitality, tourism, and related sectors.

The ceremony was attended by Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, Colombo Port City Economic Commission Chairman Harsha Amarasekera and members, Heads of Board of Investment and Sri Lanka Export Development Board,, Export Development Board Chairman Mangala Wilson, LOLC Holdings Deputy Chairman Ishara Nanayakkara, and Group Managing Director Kapila Jayawardena.

Minister Herath emphasised that the Marina aligns with Sri Lanka’s broader tourism and economic goals, envisioning Port City Colombo as a global hub of innovation and opportunity. He stressed the government’s commitment to sustainable development and socioeconomic transformation, ensuring a prosperous future for all Sri Lankans.

“This Marina is a statement to the world – Sri Lanka is open, ready, and poised to reclaim its rightful place on the global stage,” Minister Herath concluded.
