Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils Grok 3 AI Model to Challenge Industry Leaders

Published on

Elon Musk’s xAI has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence model, Grok 3, in an effort to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

As reported by Clare Duffy of CNN, xAI leaders claimed during a livestreamed event on Musk’s platform X that Grok 3 outperforms models such as Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s GPT-4o, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5, and DeepSeek’s V3 in mathematics, science, and coding. However, its standing compared to other top reasoning models, including OpenAI’s o3-mini and DeepSeek R1, remains unclear.

Grok 3 introduces several new features, including enhanced web searching capabilities through “deep search,” the ability to code online games, and a “big brain” mode designed for tackling complex problems. The model is now available to subscribers of X’s $40 per month “Premium+” plan and users who sign up via Grok’s standalone app or website.

The AI industry is seeing intense competition, with major tech firms investing heavily in data centres to power increasingly sophisticated models. In addition to the usual Silicon Valley players, Chinese startup DeepSeek has emerged as a formidable contender, demonstrating that advanced AI models can be trained more efficiently.

According to CNN’s Clare Duffy, Musk revealed that Grok 3 was developed using 10 times the computing power of its predecessor, Grok 2, following xAI’s establishment of a new data centre in Tennessee last year. He described Grok 3 as “kind of a beta” version, warning users to “expect some imperfections at first” while promising rapid improvements.

Musk also teased an upcoming “voice mode” feature for Grok 3, similar to ChatGPT’s natural conversation functionality, which he said would roll out in the coming days.
