Ceylon Chamber Appoints Shiran Fernando as Secretary General/CEO

Published on

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has announced a planned leadership transition, reinforcing its commitment to governance, continuity, and long-term institutional stability. Shiran Fernando has been appointed Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer with effect from 8 May 2026, succeeding Buwanekabahu Perera, who concludes a distinguished three-year tenure.

Chairman Krishan Balendra stated that the transition reflects the Chamber’s enduring focus on strong institutions built through sound governance and deliberate succession planning. He noted that the organisation is well-positioned to meet evolving economic and member needs.

Perera’s tenure was marked by strengthened institutional capacity and enhanced international engagement. Notably, his leadership as Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association Business Forum elevated Sri Lanka’s private-sector presence in the region, strengthening economic diplomacy and business linkages.

Fernando’s appointment signals continuity with strategic intent. Having served as Chief Economist, Head of the Economic Intelligence Unit, and most recently as Chief Economic Policy Adviser, he brings deep policy expertise and familiarity with the Chamber’s operations and stakeholders.

Institutional continuity is further supported by Deputy Secretary General Alikie Perera, whose longstanding service has been instrumental in maintaining operational and financial discipline. Together, the leadership team is poised to advance the Chamber’s role in driving economic dialogue and national development.
