CA Sri Lanka and BASL Sign Landmark MoU to Strengthen Professional Collaboration

Published on

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening collaboration between the accounting and legal professions, fostering knowledge exchange and advancing professional development.

The agreement reflects the growing importance of closer cooperation between legal and financial professionals as organisations navigate increasingly complex regulatory, governance and commercial environments.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by CA Sri Lanka President Tishan Subasinghe and BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya, who underscored the importance of building stronger institutional partnerships to benefit both professions and the wider business community.

Under the partnership, the two organisations will work together on continuing professional development programmes, knowledge sharing forums, technical discussions and capacity building initiatives designed to enhance the expertise and competencies of their members.

Speaking at the event, Tishan Subasinghe said closer engagement between accountants and lawyers would strengthen governance, support organisations and contribute to Sri Lanka’s economic development. He noted that the partnership demonstrates CA Sri Lanka’s commitment to encouraging professional collaboration and creating valuable learning opportunities for its members.

Rajeev Amarasuriya described the agreement as a historic milestone and the first formal collaboration of its kind between the BASL and CA Sri Lanka. He said the increasingly interconnected nature of legal, financial and regulatory matters makes it essential for both professions to work together, exchange expertise and address issues of common interest.

Through this strategic partnership, CA Sri Lanka and the BASL reaffirm their shared commitment to professional excellence, ethical practice and the continued development of a resilient and progressive professional landscape that supports Sri Lanka’s long term economic and institutional growth.
