Asiri Surgical Hospital Performs Sri Lanka’s First Robot Assisted Surgery

Published on

Asiri Surgical Hospital has achieved a historic milestone by successfully performing Sri Lanka’s first robot assisted surgery, bringing advanced surgical technology to the country and reducing the need for patients to seek specialised treatment overseas.

The landmark procedure was completed on 13 July 2026, marking a significant advancement in Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector. The robotic surgical platform, already in use across more than 60 countries, enables consultant surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision, greater control and high definition three dimensional imaging. The technology is expected to improve patient outcomes through smaller incisions, reduced pain, lower blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery.

Commenting on the achievement, Dr Harry Prasad, Director Operations of Asiri Surgical Hospital, said the successful introduction of robot assisted surgery reflects Asiri’s continued investment in clinical excellence, advanced technology and specialist expertise. He noted that the new platform enables consultants to deliver internationally accepted standards of care while ensuring patient safety remains the highest priority.

As Sri Lanka’s largest healthcare conglomerate, Asiri continues to strengthen its position as a leader in medical innovation, providing patients with greater access to world class treatment options within the country.
