Abans PLC has appointed Buddhika Dharmawardene as its new Chief Executive Officer with effect from 20 August 2026, marking a significant leadership appointment for the company.
Dharmawardene brings more than 26 years of experience within the Abans Group, having joined the organisation on 1 November 1999. His career reflects extensive exposure to multiple areas of the business, particularly marketing, brand management, operations and strategic development.
During his tenure, he has held several key positions, including Brand Manager, Deputy Director, Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Operations. He assumed the role of Director of Operations in March 2023, where he played an instrumental role in driving business growth and strengthening the Group’s operational capabilities.
Throughout his career at Abans, Dharmawardene has contributed significantly to business expansion, revenue growth, brand development and the implementation of strategic initiatives. His progression through senior management positions has also provided him with extensive knowledge of the Group’s businesses and operational landscape.
Dharmawardene holds an MBA with a Merit Pass from the University of Wales, UK. He has also completed Leadership Development – Executive Education at NUS Business School, further strengthening his leadership and management credentials.
His appointment brings a combination of institutional knowledge, operational experience and strategic insight to the Chief Executive Officer role as Abans PLC continues to pursue business growth, operational development and long-term value creation.
