Trump Delays TikTok Ban Enforcement by 75 Days

Published on

As reported by Clare Duffy and David Goldman for CNN, President Donald Trump signed an executive action on Monday delaying the enforcement of the TikTok ban for 75 days. The ban, mandated under the Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, was originally set to take effect on 19th January. Signed into law by former President Joe Biden, the act required TikTok to either sell its operations to a U.S. or allied company or face a nationwide ban.

Trump’s executive action directs the U.S. Justice Department to halt enforcement, citing the timing of the law — one day before he assumed office — as a hindrance to fully evaluating its national security implications. The delay aims to allow the administration to explore solutions that address security concerns while avoiding an abrupt shutdown of TikTok, a platform used by millions of Americans.

TikTok, which temporarily shut down operations over the weekend, resumed service Sunday afternoon following Trump’s announcement.
