BBC reporters Jean Mackenzie and Simon Fraser have reported on South Korea’s deadliest air crash involving a Jeju Air flight.

The Boeing 737-800, travelling from Bangkok, crash-landed at Muan International Airport on Sunday, killing 179 people, with only two crew members surviving.

Jeju Air CEO Kim Yi-bae stated during a news conference that pre-flight checks had revealed no issues with the landing gear. Investigations are focusing on the possible role of a bird strike or weather conditions and why the plane’s landing gear was not deployed.

Grieving families await identification of victims, as investigators continue to uncover the cause of the tragedy.
