Petrol Prices Expected to Decline Further in 2025

Published on

Gas prices are expected to drop in 2025 for the third consecutive year, according to GasBuddy’s projections shared with CNN.

The national average for regular petrol is forecasted to fall to $3.22 per gallon, the lowest since 2021, compared to $3.33 in 2024.

This follows a significant decrease from the mid-2022 peak of over $5 per gallon, which heavily impacted consumers and the economy.

GasBuddy estimates Americans will spend $115 billion less on fuel in 2025 than in 2022, with households projected to spend $2,252 annually—higher than pre-Covid levels but below the 2022 record.

However, uncertainties, including President-elect Trump’s proposed tariffs, could disrupt this outlook, warns GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan.
