Chery’s Next Move: Building Cars in the UK

Chinese car giant Chery is considering building cars in the UK, with a final decision expected soon, according to its UK head, Victor Zhang, who told the BBC it was a “matter of time” before the company commits.

Chery, already preparing to manufacture cars in Spain, aims to take a “localised” approach to the European market.

The company, founded in 1997, is China’s largest vehicle exporter and is looking to expand globally through its new brands, Omoda and Jaecoo. Omoda was recently launched in the UK, offering both electric and petrol versions of its SUV, the Omoda 5.
