Japanese Government Demands Major Reforms from Toyota

Published on

The Japanese government has ordered Toyota Motor to implement “drastic reforms” following new violations discovered in the automaker’s vehicle certification procedures.

The Transport Ministry’s corrective order revealed intentional misconduct and irregularities in seven additional models not previously reported.

Toyota acknowledged the need for significant changes to ensure proper certification operations and stated that it was verifying compliance with the requirements for these models. The company assured customers that they do not need to stop using the affected vehicles.

Previously, in June, Toyota, along with four other vehicle manufacturers, admitted to submitting flawed or manipulated data for vehicle certification. Despite reporting no new issues beyond those disclosed in June, the company plans to resume production of the affected models starting in September, pending the Transport Ministry’s confirmation of compliance.
