Warren Buffett’s Wit and Wisdom on Succession

Published on

Warren Buffett, nearing 94, joked about his age during Berkshire Hathaway’s shareholder meeting, emphasising the need for succession planning. Reflecting on his eventual departure, Buffett expressed confidence in Greg Abel, his chosen successor, to handle investment decisions.

Despite his age, Buffett humorously acknowledged his limits, quipping about not committing to long-term contracts. He also paid tribute to his late partner, Charlie Munger, mistakenly referring to Abel as Munger during the meeting.

Beyond succession, Buffett discussed reducing Berkshire’s Apple stake, voiced concerns about AI and deepfakes, and expressed hope for next year’s meeting.

With his trademark wit, Buffett assured shareholders of his continued involvement while preparing for the company’s future without him, closing with the sentiment: “I not only hope you come next year, but I hope I come next year.”
