The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) elected Chamila Wijethunge of Acorn Travels (Pvt) Ltd as its new President during its 51st Annual General Meeting, held at the Dusit Princess Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Wijethunge becomes only the second woman to lead TAASL in its five-decade history. In her inaugural address, she emphasised unity, collaboration and stronger relationships across Sri Lanka’s travel trade.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya attended as Chief Guest, alongside representatives of SriLankan Airlines, digital travel platforms, the Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents.
The gathering also brought together TAASL members and tourism stakeholders from both countries. A networking session following the meeting explored joint promotions, stronger business-to-business cooperation and opportunities to deepen tourism links between Sri Lanka and Nepal. Under Wijethunge’s leadership, TAASL will continue advancing industry advocacy, international partnerships and opportunities for Sri Lanka’s travel agency community.
