Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC has appointed veteran banking professional Shashi Kandambi to its Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director, strengthening the Bank’s governance and strategic leadership capabilities.
Kandambi brings more than 37 years of experience across banking, financial management, corporate leadership and strategic transformation, with expertise spanning corporate governance, risk oversight, financial strategy, regulatory engagement, digitalisation and stakeholder management.
She served as General Manager/Chief Executive Director of National Savings Bank from January 2024 to January 2026, leading the institution through a period of transformation focused on strengthening its financial position, governance frameworks, operational efficiency and digital capabilities. She also represented NSB at prominent international platforms including the WSBI Centenary Conference, SIBOS and the Asian SWIFT Forum.
Previously, Kandambi held the position of Senior Deputy General Manager and several senior leadership roles at Sampath Bank PLC, covering Corporate Banking, International Banking, Corporate Credit, Treasury, Corporate Finance, Digitalisation, Offshore Banking, Legal and Recoveries.
Her academic credentials include an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, alongside professional qualifications in business, finance and banking. She has also completed executive education programmes at Harvard Business School and the University of Sussex.
Kandambi has served as President of the Association of Professional Bankers Sri Lanka and Chairperson of the SWIFT User Group Sri Lanka and Financial Ombudsman Sri Lanka. Currently a financial consultant, her appointment brings extensive banking, governance and regulatory expertise to Commercial Bank’s Board.
