Abans Finance PLC Appoints Upul Gunasekara as Chief Executive Officer

Abans Finance PLC has announced the appointment of Upul Gunasekara as Chief Executive Officer, marking a new chapter in the company’s leadership and growth journey.

Gunasekara brings more than two decades of experience in Sri Lanka’s financial services industry, with expertise spanning credit management, recoveries, operations, risk management and strategic leadership.

He holds an MBA from the University of Wolverhampton and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, specialising in Real Estate.

Gunasekara served as Assistant General Manager at Lanka Orix Leasing Company, now known as LOLC, from 2007 to 2019. He subsequently joined Abans Finance PLC in September 2019 as Head of Recoveries, contributing to the company’s operational development and strategic priorities.

In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Abans Finance PLC, taking on broader responsibilities across strategic leadership, operational excellence, risk management and business growth.

His elevation to the Chief Executive Officer position reflects the company’s confidence in his extensive industry knowledge and leadership experience. Gunasekara is expected to guide Abans Finance through its next phase of sustainable growth, innovation and transformation while strengthening its position within Sri Lanka’s competitive financial services sector.
